Who we are

Car Games (car-games.co.uk) is run by a small independent team. We are the data controller for personal data processed through this website. You can reach us at contact@car-games.co.uk.

This policy explains what personal data is handled when you use car-games.co.uk, why, and what control you have over it. It is written for everyone who uses the site, including teenagers, so we have kept it as plain as we can. We follow the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).

In short

  • You can play every game without an account. We never ask for your name, age, email address or any other personal details to play.
  • We do not set advertising or tracking cookies of our own, and we do not build profiles of our visitors.
  • Your favourites, recently played games and theme are saved only in your own browser. We never receive them.
  • Games and videos come from third parties. They only load after you choose to play, and we tell you before they do.
  • We never sell personal data.

The information we handle and why

When you visit the site

Like every website, our pages are delivered to your device over the internet. To do this, our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you request. This is used to deliver the site quickly and to protect it against attacks and abuse.

  • Legal basis: our legitimate interests in running a secure, working website.
  • How long: short-lived security and delivery logs, kept by Cloudflare under its own retention rules. We do not use these logs to identify visitors.

Visit statistics

We may use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and see which pages and games are popular, so we know what to improve. It does not use cookies, does not track you across other websites and does not identify individual visitors.

  • Legal basis: our legitimate interests in understanding how the site is used.
  • How long: we only see totals, such as the number of visits to a page.

When you email us

If you contact us, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and your message. We use them only to reply and to fix what you report.

  • Legal basis: our legitimate interests in answering your message.
  • How long: up to 24 months after our last exchange, unless we need to keep a message longer to deal with a legal claim.

If you send us a copyright or takedown notice, we use the details in it to assess and handle your request, and we may share them with the game's developer or distributor where this is needed to resolve it.

  • Legal basis: our legal obligations and our legitimate interests in dealing with rights claims properly.
  • How long: up to six years, the period during which legal claims can be brought in England and Wales.

Information stored in your browser

To make the site easier to use, we save a few settings in your own browser using local storage: your favourite games, the games you played recently, your light or dark theme, whether the side menu is open, and your choice about game cookies. This information stays on your device and is never sent to us. You can delete it at any time by clearing your browser data. Our Cookie Policy lists each item.

Games from third-party distributors

The games on Car Games are made by independent developers and supplied by a game distributor, GameMonetize. Games are not loaded when you open a page. The first time you press Play, we explain that the game comes from a third party and may use cookies, and the game only loads if you choose "Accept and play".

Once a game is loaded, the distributor processes data such as your IP address and device information, and may show adverts inside the game. It does this as an independent controller under its own privacy policy, not on our behalf. You can withdraw your choice at any time on our Cookie Policy page.

Gameplay videos

Some game pages include a gameplay video from YouTube. Until you press its play button, the page only shows a picture stored on our own site, and nothing is loaded from YouTube. When you press play, the video loads in YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode, and Google processes data under its own privacy policy.

Advertising

We do not show adverts on our own pages at the moment. If we add them, we will update this policy first and ask for your consent before any advertising cookies are used.

Who we share data with

  • Cloudflare, which hosts the site and provides our statistics, acting on our instructions.
  • Our email provider, which stores the messages you send us.
  • Game distributors and YouTube, only when you choose to load a game or a video, as explained above.
  • Authorities or courts, only if the law requires it.

We do not sell, rent or trade personal data, and we do not share it with data brokers.

Data transfers outside the UK

Some of our providers, such as Cloudflare and Google, may process data in the United States or other countries. When this happens, the transfer is protected by safeguards recognised under UK law, such as the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement.

How we protect your data

The whole site is served over an encrypted HTTPS connection, with modern security settings that stop other websites from tampering with our pages. The best protection, though, is collecting as little as possible: we have no accounts, no passwords and no player database to lose.

Children and teenagers

Car Games is intended for a general audience aged 13 and over. We have designed the site with the UK Age Appropriate Design Code (the Children's Code) in mind: there are no accounts, no chat, no public profiles and no profiling by us, and third-party games and videos only load when you choose them. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you are a parent and think your child has sent us personal data, email us and we will delete it.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct it if it is wrong;
  • ask us to delete it;
  • object to how we use it, or ask us to limit its use;
  • receive it in a portable format where this applies;
  • withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on consent.

To use any of these rights, email contact@car-games.co.uk. It is free, and we will reply within one month. We do not make any decisions about you by automated means.

If you are not happy with how we handle your data, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page when our practices change, for example if we add adverts. The date at the top always shows the current version.
