London Taxi Driver puts you behind the wheel of a cab in the capital. Your shift is simple to explain: drive to a bus stop, pick up the passenger waiting there, then follow the GPS screen in your car to their destination. Do it safely, drop them off and head out for the next fare. It is one of the calmer taxi games in our collection: a taxi driver game about routes rather than speed.

It is a calm driving game rather than a race. There is no rival to beat, so the challenge is in reading the map, finding your way through the streets and driving smoothly enough to keep your passengers happy. That makes it a nice change of pace from our racing and drifting games.

Controls

Drive with the arrow keys or W, A, S and D: up to accelerate, down to brake and reverse, left and right to steer.

Picking up passengers

Drive to a bus stop where a passenger is waiting and stop next to them. They get in and the destination appears on the GPS screen.

Following the GPS

The GPS screen in the car shows where to go. Check it at junctions so you take the right turn first time.

Tips for a good shift

• Glance at the GPS early. Knowing the next turn before the junction saves time.
• Stop gently. Pull up close to the kerb at bus stops and destinations.
• Avoid collisions. Bumps slow you down and spoil the passenger's journey.
• Do not rush. Smooth driving is quicker than crashing and recovering.
• Learn the main roads. After a few fares you will recognise the quickest routes.

The game is set in a version of London built for play, so do not expect to recognise every street. The taxi you drive is yellow, closer to the cabs seen in many films than to the black cabs on real London streets, but the job is the same: find the passenger, follow the route and drop them off safely.
