About Pixel Kart

Pixel Kart brings back the spirit of the kart races people played on games consoles years ago, complete with chunky pixel art and a top-down track. It is built for one thing above all: racing against a friend sitting right next to you. Two karts, five laps, one winner.

Because both players share the same device, it is perfect for a quick head-to-head at home, whether you are on a laptop or passing a phone back and forth. There is nothing to unlock and nothing to set up. You just pick up the controls and race.

How to play Pixel Kart

Controls

On a keyboard, steer with A and D or with the Left and Right arrow keys. With a phone or tablet, each player steers using the touch controls. Karts turn quickly, so small corrections are usually all you need.

The race

Each race lasts five laps around the circuit. Stay on the track, take the corners neatly and keep your rival behind you. The result is decided on the fifth lap, so even a bad start can be turned around.

Playing together

Agree who takes which kart before the start. Sitting side by side at one keyboard works well; on a phone, the touch controls let you share the screen.

Tips to beat your friend

  • Take the inside line. The shortest way round each corner is the inside, if you can hold it.
  • Do not oversteer. Pixel karts are twitchy; gentle taps are faster than big swerves.
  • Use the first lap to learn. The circuit becomes much easier once you have seen every corner.
  • Stay calm when behind. Five laps give plenty of time for your opponent to make a mistake.
  • Play the rematch. The best part of a two-player race is immediately challenging the winner again.

Retro style, instant fun

Pixel Kart proves you do not need 3D graphics for an exciting race. The simple look loads instantly and leaves nothing between you and the competition.

House rules for fair races

Because Pixel Kart is played side by side, a few friendly rules help. Swap karts after each race so nobody always has the side they prefer, play best of three or best of five instead of a single race, and let the loser choose who starts the next round. On a phone, hold the device flat between you so both players can reach their controls comfortably. Little touches like these turn a quick game into a proper tournament.

Who will enjoy it

Pixel Kart is ideal for siblings, friends and anyone who wants a quick competitive game on one screen. For another two-player option with modern 3D cars, try Night City Racing. For more old-school racing, head to Nitro Rally. Browse everything in our racing games.
